Moses Lake man injured in collision

| April 24, 2013 6:05 AM

OTHELLO - A semi driver allegedly collided with a car slowing down for another stopped semi on state Route 17 near Othello.

Clifford N. Beck, Jr., 72, of Moses Lake, was driving a 2006 Kenworth semi-truck when he allegedly rear-ended a 2004 Honda Accord driven by Octavio F. Santoyo, 22, of Othello, during the weekend, according to the state patrol on Monday. Beck was uninjured.

Santoyo's car was forced into a 1999 Peterbuilt semi stopped on the road from a previous collision. The Peterbuilt was driven by Emiliano R. Mendoza, 34, of Othello, who was uninjured.

Santoyo was injured and taken to Othello Community Hospital in Othello.

All three vehicles were reported totalled and towed from the scene. Officers recommended Beck be charged with negligence for failing to slow down.

According to Trooper Darren Wright, high winds caused dust storms in the area, reducing visibility. Wright warned drivers to be cautious and slow down.
