Quincy man charged with felony-level DUI

EPHRATA - A Quincy man with a history of drinking and driving was charged with DUI.

Eustaquio C. Angel, 47, faces a felony DUI charge in Grant County Superior Court. His bail was set at $100,000.

The DUI charge was upgraded to a felony because Angel had previously been convicted for vehicular homicide in the 1997 deaths of two Pierce County teachers traveling to Washington State University to visit their daughter.

More recently, Angel was stopped April 10 by a State Patrol trooper after the trooper's radar showed he was allegedly traveling 71 mph in a 60 mph zone on state Route 281.

The trooper followed Angel as he turned onto Road 5 Northwest where he was reportedly traveling 42 mph in a 35 mph zone.

When the trooper signaled for Angel to stop the trooper reported seeing him try to conceal something in the front seat.

As the trooper approached the vehicle he could smell the presence of alcohol and Angel reportedly wouldn't make eye contact or address the trooper directly.

According to the police report, Angel reportedly failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol content of .124.

A six-pack of beer was allegedly found in a cooler inside the vehicle and one can was reportedly partly empty.

The trooper transported Angel to Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata to draw blood for evidence. He was booked into Grant County Jail.

As well as the vehicular homicide conviction in 1998, Angel has two prior DWI convictions and a reckless driving conviction.
