EPHRATA - A Moses Lake boy, 14, will be allowed to see his parents after allegedly trying to kill them in March.

Judge Pro-tem Doug Anderson ruled the boy's parents will be able to have supervised visits with their son as long as they don't discuss the ongoing investigation.

Currently, the boy is charged with first-degree attempted murder for allegedly shooting his parents March 8. His bail was set at $500,000.

According to the police report, the boy was reportedly upset at his parents for taking away his video games. He allegedly was able to obtain a pistol from a gun safe inside the house, walked into his parents' bedroom and began to shoot, hitting his mother and father.

Grant County Prosecutor Angus Lee stated that the prosecution was opposed to the idea of the suspect's parents visiting him while he was in custody. Lee explained that typically in domestic violence cases it is common for suspects to want to communicate with the victims and sway their judgment.

The defense argued that their client's parents should be able to visit their son because the prosecution wasn't strongly opposed to the visits.

Anderson understood the prosecution's concerns, but felt that the boy wouldn't be able to influence his parents' feelings toward the investigation.

The circumstances surrounding this case are different from typical domestic violence cases because the child was allegedly attacking the parents.

Prosecutors will be able to present the issue in court again if any concerns arise from the visits.

A hearing is set for May 6 to determine whether or not the teen will be tried as an adult for attempted murder.
