Moses Lake baseball downs Eisenhower
A Cadet runner was ruled safe on a questionable call as he dives back to first on a pickoff attempt by Jacob Price to Drew Loera.
MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs (7-0) extended their win streak to seven games with a 9-1 win over Eisenhower at home Tuesday to remain undefeated in the Columbia Basin Big Nine standing.
Moses Lake pounded out 10 hits and got another outstanding effort on the bump from Jacob Price who pitched six innings of one-hit ball, while striking out seven Cadets.
"I thought the guys played really well. We got off to a slow start ... took some pitches early, but recovered and had some quality at bats," coach Quintz Whitaker said. "Jacob struggled a bit today ... walked a couple of batters, but only gave up one hit. Hunter Boyd came on in relief in the seventh inning ... didn't give up a hit and struck out three."
The Chiefs put a run on the board in the second, third and fourth innings to go up 3-0.
Eisenhower got a run back in the top of the fifth for the Cadets only score of the game to avoid the shutout. Four runs in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth pushed the lead to 9-1 Moses Lake.
Gunner Raymond had the hot stick for the Chiefs, going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and one run scored. Jordon Hooper had two hits in three at bats with a double and 3 RBI, and Drew Loera was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, 2 RBI and a run scored.
"The middle of our lineup ... Gunner, Jordon and Drew were clutch today," Whitaker said. "They are producing the way we expect them to. We are undefeated in league play, but still have some things to work on to get better ...but I can't complain with the results we are having."
Moses Lake is back on the diamond Friday at Eisenhower.
