Warden girls sweep Ki-Be

WARDEN - It was a cold windy day when Warden and Kiona-Benton took the field for doubleheader action Saturday.

But it didn't take long for the Cougar bats to heat up as Warden pounded out 38 hits and scored 41 runs combined in the two games.

"Our bats were really on," coach Wes Richins said. "It seemed like even when we didn't hit hard, the ball found the hole."

Aalyiah Enriquez went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, and Brenda DeLeon had three hits in three at bats with a triple and 4 RBI to lead a Cougar arsenal that produced 21 runs of 21 hits in game one of the twin bill.

The Bears put a run on the board in the top of the first inning to take and early 1-0 lead. But the scored didn't hold up long as Warden reeled off 21 unanswered runs over the next three and a half innings to come away with the lopsided win.

Iris Rodriquez pitched five solid innings of one-hit ball in the circle, giving up a single run and walking one Bear.

"She gave up a hit to first batter of the game and retired the next 15," Richins said. "The hitter she walked got picked off."

The Cougar bats continued to sizzle in the second game of the day as Warden produced 20 runs off 17 hits.

Aalyiah Enriquez hit her second home run of the twin bill, and Lexy Pruneda and Iris Rodriguez went yard as well to help lead Warden to the blowout win.

The Cougars led 13-0 after one inning of play, and took a 20-1 lead into the fifth.

The Bears added a run in the top of the inning, but that was all Ki-Be could muster.

Enriquez (6-0) went the distance for the Cougars, giving up just one hit and one earned run, while fanning eight Bears.

"We knew we would see some strikes today so the girls were excited to bat," Richins said. "It's rare when everyone hits so well at the same time."

The wins over Ki-Be puts Warden at 4-0 in SCAC league play, and 12-0 overall.

The Cougars put their undefeated record on the line Saturday when the team travels to Burbank to take on the Coyotes in doubleheader action.
