Lioness to open Spaceburger booth
A couple of friends tear into their Space Burgers at the Moses Lake Lioness Club booth at the Grant County Fairgrounds.
MOSES LAKE - Spaceburger fans will be able to purchase their favorite midway food at the Moses Lake Lioness Club booth at the Grant County Fairgrounds this weekend, from April 19-21.
Those who do will be supporting the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. There will be no admission fee to get into the fairgrounds.
In year's past, the Lioness Club of Moses Lake has opened the Spaceburger booth in the spring months. There is yearly opening during the Grant County fair in August.
On April 19-21 the booth will open at 11 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. all three days.
Spaceburgers were made famous at the 1962 World's Fair in Seattle that featured the Space Needle and the then futuristic monorail.
The Moses Lake Lioness Club was able to purchase the machines and set up a booth out at the Grant County Fairgrounds to serve hungry customers twice a year.
"We've got more than 1,600 Spaceburger fans on our Facebook page who just love their Spaceburgers," Lioness Michaelle Boetger said.
A Spaceburger is a sandwich made with two pieces of white bread, seasoned ground beef, lettuce and a special sauce similar to Thousand Islands dressing.
The entire sandwich is toasted inside the Spaceburger machines. They are toasted into a round shape. Therefore, the name Spaceburger.
The Spaceburger is very popular at the Grant County Fair. It can be purchased only at the Grant County fair, and the lines are always long.
"And the proceeds from the sale of Spaceburgers goes back to the community through various donations throughout the year," Boetger said.
The Lioness request all larger orders be ordered ahead of time by calling 770-1698. Pack's Delivery will also be taking orders and bringing Spaceburgers to your door.

The purpose of the Lioness Club of Moses Lake is to foster a spirit of interest, friendliness and helpfulness among its members and to cooperate with the Moses Lake Lions Club in their philanthropic projects.
The Lioness Club of Moses Lake is a non-profit organization with ongoing projects such as scholarships and numerous other donations given to the local community, all funded by the club's efforts at the Spaceburger booth at the Grant County Fair.
Membership is open to women age 18 and over. Meetings are held the third Monday of each month at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 1020 South A Street in Moses Lake at 6:30 p.m.
