Kathleen Lee Schutz

Kathleen Lee Schutz was born April 23, 1951 in Spokane, Washington to Fred Francis Schutz "Sonny", and Floye Alice (Maxwell) Schutz "Dolly". Kathy grew up in the Spokane Valley on Bessie Rd., and attended school there until she graduated from West Valley High in 1969.

Kathy graduated from EWU in 1973 with a degree in Teaching/Home Economics. Her first teaching job was in Troy, MT, the second Wilpinit, WA, and last Royal City, WA. Kathy lived in Royal City, and taught at Royal High School for 33 years.

Kathy passed away April 1, 2013 from pulmonary complications. She is survived by her sister Patricia Freeman (Ornia) Spokane Valley, nephew Kevin Freeman (Lisa), grand nephew Nathan Freeman, and grand niece Abigail Freeman.

Kathy had many friends over the years including her childhood friend Gloria McPhee, teachers Jan Clark (Rol), Laurie Lafser (Matt ), Veronica Barrett, Mario Godoy (Sandra), and neighbors Maggie Nielsen, and Sharon Chesterman (Daryl).

Kathy loved living in Royal City. This included all of the residents, students, teachers/ administrators (past and present), her home/yard, her cat Toby (Maggie's cats too), La Cabana restaurant, and the young men who helped her with her yard and school garden.

She loved to drive anywhere, and traveled to many places (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, New York, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, Alaska, and many other western states).

Most of all, she loved teaching. It was her passion and purpose in life.

A memorial service will be held in Kathy's honor on Wednesday April 24, 4:00pm at the Royal High School Gymnasium.
