Small business hazardous waste collection scheduled

| April 16, 2013 6:00 AM

EPHRATA – Businesses and agencies that generate small amounts of hazardous waste may participate in a disposal opportunity on Friday, May 10, at the Moses Lake Surf n' Slide Water Park.

Although there is a fee for this disposal opportunity, participants often see a reduced cost, according to Joan Melvin of Grant County Solid Waste.

The business or agency must be a small quantity generator to participate, Melvin said. To be a small quantity generator, the business or agency must generate less than 220 pounds per month and accumulate less than 2,200 pounds of hazardous waste before disposing of the waste.

A business must also accumulate less than 2.2 pounds of acutely hazardous waste per month or batch.

Examples of hazardous waste include spent florescent light tubes, paint thinner, oil based paint, solvents, aerosols, corrosives, pesticides, poisons, and oxidizers.

To participate in this event, businesses and agencies must pre-register before April 26. Please call Grant County Solid Waste at 754-6082 ext. 3508 for questions or to receive the application packet.
