Chiefs back from Pasco Invite

PASCO - Several hundred top high school track and field athletes from around the Pacific Northwest competed at the Pasco Invitational Saturday.

And after the final whistle had sounded, Moses Lake girls were among the top 10 teams with a sixth place finish out of 53 schools. Kamiakin finished first, Curtis was second and Richland, third.

The Chiefs boys team placed 38th out of 65. Wenatchee took top honors, Mead was second and Ephrata placed 13th.

"I thought the girls had a really good outing," coach Nicki Weiland said. "This was a tough meet. You never know what's going to happen when you compete against such a talented field."

Alysha Overland turned in the best individual finish for the girl's taking third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.48. Overland was recently named WIAA 4A Female Athlete of the Week.

The ever steady Sadie Nielsen took fourth in the discus (122-04) and seventh in the shot with a put of 37-09.50. Caylah Lunning (17-03.00) finished fifth in the long jump, and Selina Koon placed 13th, clearing 5-00.00 in the high jump. In the team events it was Kayla Grigg, Alysha Overland, Lunning and Diamond Ransom taking sixth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 49.82, and London Cleverly, Arlena Hannan and Alysha and Stephanie Overland placing second in the 4x400, crossing the finish line at 4:07.00.

Boys

Cameron Law was the top placer for the boys, clearing 14-00.00 in the pole vault, which was good enough for fourth in the event.

Cameron Ballard tied for 15th (5-10) in the high jump, Alek Schweisow placed 17th (4:33.78) in the 1600 meters, and Lowell Kirkwood was 18th (2:00.39) in the 800.

Ephrata's Jonathan Green had second place finishes in the 200 and 400 meters with times of 22.21 and 49.27 respectively.

Moses Lake is back on the track Wednesday when the Chiefs host Davis and Eastmont at 3:30 p.m.
