Boys golf takes POD 2 match

YAKIMA - Moses Lake golfers earned the top four finishes at the par 71 Elks Golf Course in Yakima Tuesday, and were key in the Chiefs win in the second Big 9 POD match of the season.

Brenden Cox set the pace carding a 72 and was low round medalist on the day. Brody Milbrandt shot 79, Kellan Roellich was one shot back with an 80, and Tanner Montgomery finished with 82.

Moses Lake tallied a team total of 313, Wenatchee was second with 337, Sunnyside third with 344, Eisenhower (349), fourth and Davis fifth with 423.

"Having our guys take the top four spots out of the 34 golfers competing was great. Brenden's 72 was a superb score as he won by 7 shots. He is really starting to play some great golf," coach JR Cox said. "Brody has been playing real steady golf for us. Kellan also put together a good round and he just keeps getting better and better. Tanner is always towards the top in our POD matches."

Rounding out the scores for Moses Lake were Nick Sutherland who turned in an 85, and Dylan Greninger who shot 92.

"I'm not only proud of the guys individually, but also as a team," Cox said. "We won the POD again and now lead our league in the team standings. The league scores are great, but our top guys are also fighting for the individual top spot and the Player of the Year award at the end of the season."

The links at Elks Golf Course is the site of the second round of the district tournament, so Cox said it was nice for the guys to be able to get a feel for it early on should they advance to postseason play.

"Our goal has always been to be league champion and have our six golfers finish in the top 12 at districts," Cox said. "And if we keep playing like we are, that will happen."

The Chiefs are back at it Monday when the team heads to 3 Lakes Golf Course in Wenatchee for POD match No. 3.
