OTHELLO - The Othello City Council approved 50 percent fee decreases to rent the Lions Park softball complex.

Parks and recreation coordinator Molly Klippert outlined the fee adjustments to the city council, highlighting the changes to the field rental rates. She later explained the decrease was because fees were consolidated.

The parks and recreation department hopes that by simplifying the breakdown of costs, Lions Park will become a more attractive venue for tournaments, Klippert said.

The changes include $100 per field for one day and $800 for the weekend. These prices include the cost of mounds, fencing and maintenance.

Previously the base charge for renting fields for the day or weekend didn't include the cost of mounds, fencing and maintenance. They were added as separate fees.

The adjustment of the facility rental fees was first discussed during a January council meeting.

The council's Parks and Recreation Committee met Monday to revisit the fees and agreed to make changes to the cost for facility rental.

The Lions Park Softball Complex, adjacent to Lions Park, includes four fields that can be used for either softball or baseball, covered dugouts, bleachers, a concession stand and rest rooms.
