SUNNYSIDE - The Chiefs Jacob Price pitched 6 innings of 1-hit ball, and Drew Loera went 3-for-5 at the plate and scored 3 runs in a 15-0 win over the Sunnyside Grizzles Tuesday.

The shutout on the road improved Moses Lake to 4-0 in the Big 9 league standings and 7-2 overall, and lands the Chiefs in a three-way tie for first place with Eastmont and Wenatchee.

"I was interested to see how the guys would respond after such a long layoff and they came through with flying colors," coach Quintz Whitaker said. "Jacob pitched really well ... had great command on the mound and really attacked their hitters. Brett Moser had a good day in the leadoff spot and we pounded out 13 hits in the game."

Moses Lake jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the teams' first at bat and never looked back.

The Chiefs were held off the board in the second inning, but scored a run in the third, fourth and fifth to stretch their lead to 6-0.

Sunnyside still had a chance to get back in it, but Moses Lake exploded for 9 runs in the top of the seventh to blow the contest wide open.

"We put a lot of runs on the board, but nothing left the ball park," Whitaker said. "We had one double on the day and strung together a lot of singles. The guys looked mentally sharp ... got up early ... stayed focused and finished strong."

Moser was 1-for-1 at the plate with three walks, Brad Fox had 2 hits in 4 at bats, and Colton Kelly and Elliot Sage finished with 2 hits and 3 RBI each.

The Chiefs are back on the diamond Friday when they host a twin bill against the Grizzlies. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
