Quincy school bus involved in collision

QUINCY - The Grant County Sheriff's Office reported an injury collision Tuesday involving a Quincy school bus transporting 30 children and a Columbia Basin Herald carrier.

The collision occurred on Road 11 Northwest and Road S Northwest, west of Quincy about 4 p.m.

According to a sheriff's office statement, an undisclosed number of students with minor injuries were taken by ambulance to Quincy Valley Medical Center. Deputies, ambulances and EMTs were on scene treating any other minor injuries.

Many of the children were transferred to another bus, according to the sheriff's office.

The children's parents were notified by the school district.

Emergency personnel were clear from the scene about 5 p.m.

The driver of the passenger car, Jerry Rains, 47, of Ephrata, said he was pulled over on the shoulder and when he attempted to drive off, his vehicle clipped the side of the bus. Rains was transported to the medical center with injuries to his shoulder area.

Law enforcement has not released the cause of the collision or who is at fault.
