Moses Lake father charged with assault

EPHRATA - Court documents offer more details in the case of a Moses Lake man who allegedly assaulting his 4-month-old daughter over the weekend.
David Gilman, 21, was charged this week with first degree child assault, first degree child assault (great bodily harm) and first degree assault (great bodily harm). All charges had domestic violence enhancements.
On Sunday, Moses Lake police were dispatched to Samaritan Hospital to investigate a report of an injured child, according to court documents.
The child suffered a head injury, which caused a hematoma as well as some bruising on her shoulders, medical staff told police.
The child was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for treatment.
According to court documents, the child's mother left the victim with Gilman and went to stay with a friend.
According to his statement, Gilman's roommate exited the bathroom of their Grape Drive residence and heard screaming coming from the living room that alternated from loud to muffled.
The witness stated he saw Gilman allegedly "shoving" the baby's face into the couch cushions and lift her up from the couch "violently."
The witness then went back into the bathroom. Gilman reportedly rushed into the bathroom and said his daughter was having seizures, according to the witness's statement.
After officers arrived at the hospital, Gilman was reportedly detained and questioned about the incident.
According to the police report, Gilman stated the victim was playing with his cellphone cord when she tensed up and her eyes rolled back in her head.
When Gilman was presented with the alternate story provided by the witness he reportedly denied ever putting his hands on his daughter.
According to court documents, Gilman repeatedly changed his story throughout his questioning until he eventually admitted to everything the witness observed. Gilman admitted to having anger management problems and he allegedly became upset when his daughter wouldn't stop crying.
Gilman was booked into Grant County Jail on charges of first degree child assault.
