Lowell Layton

Lowell Layton, resident of Moses Lake since 1955, passed away at his home on Thursday morning, April 4, 2013 at the age of 90. Lowell was born, November 23, 1922 to James Myron and Sarah Layton, in Glenwood, Alberta, Canada, the second son of 7 children.

Lowell married LaDean Laura Cook on Feb. 10, 1949 in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. They were blessed with one daughter, Cathy and two sons, Brian and Curtis.

He has always been a devoted member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, and as a young man, served a mission in the North Western States Mission.

As a young man he was involved in all types of sports and played in the Glenwood City band. He moved his family to the Columbia Basin in 1955. He worked for the Moses Lake School District in various positions and also for the Job Corp. He loved the land, especially during the harvest season. He drove harvest trucks till he was 84. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in many of their activities, from riding horses, and motorcycles, to playing sports. Always giving them support and encouragement. He also had a great love for little children. One of his last joys was to be around his great grandchildren.

Lowell had an infectious smile, and was very passionate about life and was loved by everyone who came to know him.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and a great grand child, Ashlynn.

Lowell is survived by his wife, LaDean and his children: Brian (Karen) of Moses Lake, Cathy Chandler of Spokane, and Curtis of Moses Lake, 9 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Rose Street Chapel, 1036 W. Rose Ave. in Moses Lake. A viewing will be held at Kayser's Chapel on Friday, April 12 from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. Family will be there from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. There will also be a viewing prior to the services on Saturday from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. at the church.
