ROYAL CITY - There were mixed results for Royal's Red Rock Elementary fifth-grade team at the Math is Cool competition at Wenatchee on March 15.

Red Rock swept team-on-team contests, and the team leader scored high individually.

"Our kids represented Red Rock very well and were so supportive of each other," coach Maria Lefler said.

The Red Rock team was made up of 14 students. They were divided into three teams of four, and there were two alternates.

"Everybody participated," Lefler said.

The Royal team finished eighth in its division. Tyler Piercy finished first for Red Rock, and he finished seventh out of the 140 students in the division.

"All of our kids were in the top half of the individual test," Lefler said.

Red Rock really excelled in the "college bowl" rounds. Each of the three Red Rock teams faced three opposing teams, and Red Rock was perfect in all nine matches.

"An excellent showing for our kids, and Nancy Grant and Michelle Miller were super help," Lefler said.
