MOSES LAKE - The Army National Guard Ephrata-based 1161st Transportation company is providing a training certification course for soldiers Saturday at the Moses Lake sand dunes.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office Off-Road Vehicle Deputies will be assisting the National Guard in the course to certify soldiers in the use of military vehicles and showcase the vehicle's abilities in off-road conditions, according to the sheriff's office.

About 20 vehicles will be showcased including palletized load system vehicles, wreckers and Humvees.

The Guard will also use the training event as a recruiting drive to add prospective members.

"This promises to be a great display of our military's vehicle capabilities and a great opportunity for the Guard to bring aboard new members," Sheriff Tom Jones stated in a press release.

Sheriff's ORV deputies will be on hand to assist and promote off-road vehicle safety.

The event is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Moses Lake sand dunes lot 1. This is the area closest to the Potato Hill Rd. Southeast entrance.
