Reader asks government to stop "special" aid

| April 5, 2013 6:00 AM

Why do we the people allow the state of Washington and federal government to insult minorities and women in the business world? Take a look at the website www.omwbe.wa.gov. Isn't this our government effectively saying that minorities and women are so incapable at running businesses that they need special help? Isn't this also the result of immoral legislators using tax dollars to give to select "special" groups in hopes of "buying their votes."

Yes, discrimination against both women and minorities existed in the past, and it continues in smaller degree in our present world. No amount of legislation, or government agencies, shall overcome the ignorant prejudices of some people. The fact that public education seems to teach all these problems of the past, and seems to praise those who continue to call for "social justice" ignore that individual hard work and equal justice give people pride. "Social justice" promotes low self esteem because a person is subservient to a government that by having such agencies effectively states that minorities and women would be incapable compared to "better" people. I learned that an "executive secretary" could run a successful small business in a chauvinistic industry that would boycott a company out of business if it was run by a woman. I was taught by my mother, who did not let the business world know that Mr. Hulett was "not available" because he was buried in Forest Lawn. She proved what a woman could do, and it is an insult to think that any intelligent and hardworking person, regardless of gender or ethnic background could not be equally successful.
