MOSES LAKE - Business and agencies will have the opportunity to dispose of small amounts of hazardous waste during Grant County Solid Waste's Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Event next month.

The business or agency must be a small quantity generator to participate in the collection event on May 10 at the Moses Lake Surf n' Slide Water Park, according to a news release from the solid waste agency.

A business is a small quantity generator if it generates less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month and if it accumulates less than 2,200 pounds of waste before disposal.

A business must also accumulate less than 2.2 pounds of acutely hazardous waste per month or batch, to be considered a small quantity generator.

Examples of hazardous waste include florescent light tubes, paint thinner, oil-based paint, solvents, and aerosols, according to the release. Corrosives, pesticides, poisons and oxidizers are also considered hazardous waste.

Joan Melvin, of Grant County Solid Waste, said there is a fee to participate in the collection event. The fee depends on the type of waste a business wants to dispose of, she said.

Businesses and agencies must pre-register before April 26 to participate in the event, said Melvin.

For more information on the collection event, or to pre-register, call 509-754-6082, ext. 3508.
