Annual Lions Club egg hunt a success

MOSES LAKE - McCosh Park hosted the Moses Lake Lions Club's Easter egg hunt over the weekend and parents, children and community members came out in droves to celebrate on a sunny Saturday.

The hunt was organized by the Lions Club with help from the Leo's Club, Boy Scout Troop 67 and Cub Scout Pack 67.

During the hunt, kids were separated by age groups into roped off areas. Dennis Foster, past zone chairman for the Lions Club, was on the microphone giving instructions to the parents and kids and providing a countdown until the hunt began.

"We are proud to bring [the hunt] to the community every year and look forward to doing it for many years to come," Foster said.

Along with the dyed eggs there were plastic eggs filled with candy and tickets for special prizes. Some of the prizes included coupons for businesses, including restaurants and miniature golf.

The prizes were redeemed at a table run by Lions Club committee members Sue Hodges, Roxanna Hunt and Carole Sargee. Hodges was the community Easter egg chairman and Hunt was the co-chairman.

With about five minutes to go until the hunt started, the children began to line the ropes surrounding the park area.

"One thing that's cool about the egg hunt: it starts at 12 o'clock and it's over pretty much by 12:01, 12:02," said Lions Club past President Brian Sargee.

Sargee compared the beginning of the hunt to watching the movie "Braveheart" or a feeding frenzy. It's because when the clock strikes noon, all the kids rush the park.

Tami and Anthony Quinn have made the McCosh Park Easter egg hunt a family tradition.

They have been taking their daughter to the event for the past four years. The Quinns both commented on how quick the Easter egg hunt is saying it takes about five seconds.

When noon finally arrived and the kids took off to collect their eggs in a mad dash, Anthony only had two words. "Told ya," he said.
