Child dies in car crash

MOSES LAKE - An eight year old boy died on March 23 when two cars collided eight miles north of Moses Lake.

According to the Washington State patrol, Daniel Vazquez Lopez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, and he died at the scene.

The State Patrol reported that neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor in the accident. The collision occurred at about 6:25 p.m.

Daniel Lopez was a passenger in a car driven by Teresa Vazquez Lopez, 50, of Ephrata. She was wearing her seatbelt, but she was injured and required transport to Central Washington hospital.

The white 2000 Toyota 4runner that Lopez was driving was totaled and was impounded.

According to the State Patrol, the collision occurred near milepost 63 on Highway 17, eight miles north of Moses Lake. The driver of the second car was Danny L. O'Neal, 57, of Othello.

O'Neal was driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander. He was wearing his seatbelt, but he was injured and required transport to Samaritan hospital in Moses Lake.

A passenger in the O'Neal car, Tamra S. O'Neal, 57, was injured and required transport to Samaritan. She was using her seatbelt.

According to the Washington State patrol, the collision occurred after Teresa Vazquez Lopez lost control of her car to the right side of the roadway. She overcorrected to the left and into the pathway of the O'Neil car in the opposite lane. There, the two cars collided.
