Fresh News From MarDon
It's the perfect time of year on Potholes Reservoir. The trout fishing is the best it has been in 10 years. Trolling a # 3 Needlefish or diving plugs like a # 7 Rapala Shad Rap, Baby Hot Lips or D-C 13 are bringing in some of the biggest trout we have seen in years. Rainbow Trout 4lbs and over are not an un-common catch.
Saturday, Sept. 1 is the Dove Season Opener. A great time to air out the dog and sharpen up on your shooting skills. The Royal Youth Boosters are offering a dove hunting package that helps support The Royal School District kids with after school programs. Please contact the MarDon Office for more information at 1-509-346-2651.
On Sept. 15 we host the Old Farts Bass Fishing Tournament. This year the Old Farts Competition is being run by the Central Washington Fish Advisory Committee as a 501-C3 non-profit organization. Please visit (www.cwfac.org) for more information on this project. This is a great tournament to take a kid fishing. One boater must be at least 40 years or older to quality to fish in this tournament. This one day bass tournament starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. This is an open tournament and all fishers are welcome. $150 entry per boat.
Plus the famous MarDon Marathon Dock Fishing Tournament starts at 6 p.m. on Friday, September with continuous fishing until 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16. On Sunday morning we compile weight on nine different species and determine who wins and pass out checks and trophies. At noon we all gather for a potluck, awards ceremony and a raffle. We provide Willie's Famous Ribs and Chicken for the meal and the rest is a potluck style. This is a dock fishing only tournament, not a boating tournament.
