MATTTAWA - It's been a tough volleyball season for Wahluke High School at times, but not last Thursday.

The Warriors stopped River View, 25-22, 25-21, 25-8, in a battle for fifth place in the South Central A Conference East on the Wahluke floor.

"The team played outstanding," coach Rudi Christian said. "I was proud of the level of intensity all the girls brought. We started off strong all three games but allowed River View to catch up twice, making the first and second games close."

The Warriors were led by Maripaz Olivarez with 12-13 serving with four aces and six kills. Tanya Mendez had five aces on 21-22 serving. Carina Barajas had four kills.

Earlier last week, the Warriors fell to Kiona-Benton, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21.

"We played well all three games, but we were unable to reach 25," Christian said. "Ki-Be blocked several of our hits, making it difficult for our front row players to earn kills."

Jessica Ledezma went 18-19 serving with seven aces. Kassandra Villalobos had 10 digs and Liliana Ramirez 14 digs.
