Mattawa man arrested in Yakima's woman's death

MATTAWA  – Grant County officials arrested a Mattawa man in connection with an apparent homicide outside of the city earlier in the month.

Jose Abilion Aguilar Aguilar, 35, of Mattawa, was arrested around 8 p.m. Monday and is currently in the Grant County Jail.

Aguilar Aguilar was booked for first-degree murder, alien in possession of a firearm, felony harassment and intimidating a witness.

He's accused of shooting Carmelita Lopez Santos, 42, of Yakima. A hunter found her body outside of Mattawa earlier this month off of Road 26 Southwest, Grant County officials said.They had been in a romantic relationship, officials said.
