Eagles lose to Titans

ODESSA - Soap Lake ran into a buzz saw in their last game of the season Friday night as the Eagles suffered a 62-20 road defeat to the Titans.

"This was most disappointing loss of the season. Mistake after mistake after mistake cost us our chances to win," coach Joe Worsham said. "We moved the ball down the field on several long drives, then gave up the ball twice on fumbles, and five times on pass interceptions." 

The Eagles fell behind on the onset of the game as Odessa-Harrington returned the opening kick 75-yard for a score (run failed) to go up 6-0. Soap Lake responded with an 18-yard pass from Joe Cutshall to Neo Galicia (pass failed) to tie the game 6-6.

The Titans answered back with a touchdown (run failed) to retake the lead 12-6 and end the first quarter scoring. Odessa-Harrington pushed its lead to 20-6 with a 35-yard TD run and a 2-point conversion.

A safety and a 10-yard toss from Cutshall to Jared Bessett (pass failed) gave the Eagles hope as Soap Lake closed the gap to 20-14 as the half came to an end.

But two scores by the Titans to open the third quarter scoring increased Odessa-Harrington's lead to 34-14.

The Eagles scored one last time on a 9-yard run by Jason Korneychuk (pass failed) to close within 14 points. But the Titans blew the game open with four unanswered scores to come away with the win.

"We gave up too many long plays and basically gifted them several TD's," Worsham said. "And our lack of focus led too many penalties, which made things extremely tough for us."

Cutshall completed 15 of 28 passes for 365 yards and two touchdowns for Soap Lake, but threw five interceptions on the game.

Korneychuk had a big night receiving wise with nine catches for 255 yards. David Odarchuk led the rushing attack for the Eagles with 122 yards on 15 carries.

Soap Lake played the game without starting guard Josh Decker, who suffered a knee injury last week and Dustin Foster, who was suspended.

Neo Galicia re-injured his ankle in the third quarter against the Titans and did not return to play.

The Eagles will end the season Friday when they host a crossover game with Curlew. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
