| October 29, 2012 6:00 AM

EPHRATA – Grant County Public Utility District commissioners have narrowed the field for a vacant seat on the commission to three candidates.

The district 3 board position will be left vacant by the resignation of Royal City's Randy Allred on Nov. 1. The vacant position on the five-member board represents the southwestern portion of Grant County known as District 3 which covers Mattawa, Quincy, George, Royal City and rural areas west of Moses Lake.

Candidates Melva Calloway, Evan Landin, and Larry Schaapman will be introduced to the public next Monday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Quincy Community Center. That meeting will provide members of the public an opportunity to hear from the three finalists and ask questions prior to any board action.

The three finalists were selected from a pool of seven qualified candidates, according to Board President, Tom Flint. Each candidate was interviewed by the commission.

Following the community meeting with the finalists, commissioners will appoint a candidate to fill the remainder of Allred’s unexpired term.
