Quincy Jacks spank Okanogan Bulldogs, 53-0

OKANOGAN - Antonio Melendez carried the rock seven times for 154 yards and two touchdowns to help lead Quincy to a dominating 53-0 win on the road Friday.

It was the Jacks fifth shut out in a row as the last time Quincy surrendered points was in a 10-7 loss to Cascade Sept. 14.

"Our offense and defense got rolling and played their best game all year," coach Stephen Wallace said. "It was our first game without an offensive turnover, and defensively, the team did a great job of hustling to ball and not allowing their speedy players to make big plays."

The win over Okanogan improves Quincy to 5-1 in Caribou Trail League action, and 5-3 overall and lands the team in tie for second place with Cascade with one game left in the regular season.

It looked as though the Bulldogs would strike first as Okanogan took the open kick and drove 60 yards to the Jacks 20.

But a big defensive stop on fourth and one to gain thwarted the scoring opportunity as Quincy took over on downs.

Andy Vargas put the first points on the board for the Jacks on a 37-yard run (Mario Figueroa PAT) to give Quincy a 7-0 lead. It was the only score in the first quarter of action.

The Jacks quarterback Jacob Durfee (PAT) made it 14-0 on a 9-yard dash to start the second quarter of play.

Quincy increased its lead to 21-0 on Melendez's first TD of the game, a 40-yard run (PAT) to round out the first half scoring.

The Jacks upper their tally 19 points on a 66-yard Melendez run (kick failed), a John Lindquist 2-yard touchdown (kick failed), and a Durfee 25-yard dash (PAT) to push the score to 33-0.

Quincy added 13 points in the final 12 minutes of play on a 49-yard run by Lindquist (kick failed), and a 55-yard run by Darren Hodges (PAT) to finish out the Jacks scoring for the lopsided 53-0 win.

Quincy's ground and pound rushing attack produced 428 yards on 38 carries.

The stingy Jacks defense held Okanogan to 134 yards of total offense.

Quincy closes out the regular season at home Friday when the Jacks host the undefeated Cashmere Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
