Moses Lake drops match to Wenatchee

MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs volleyball team was looking to avenge an early season loss to the Panthers when Moses Lake hosted Wenatchee Tuesday night.

A win meant the squads would be tied for first place at 7-2 in CBBN action with two games left to play.

But it wasn't in the cards as the Chiefs dropped a hard-fought game in three sets (18-25,20-25,17-25) much to the dismay of the home crowd on senior night.

"It was a tough loss on an emotional night," coach Amy Utter said. "But there is still a lot of volleyball to play."

Utter said she thought the team played well, but lacked the consistency to pull out the win.

"We had too many mental lapses both times we played them," she said. "We needed to be more consistent and side out quicker to avoid letting Wenatchee make runs. That didn't happen, and was the difference in both losses."

Despite the loss, the Chiefs are still sitting pretty as Moses Lake is tied with Eisenhower for second place at 6-2 with two games to go.

Four schools will qualify for the upcoming district tournament with the first and fourth, and the second and third place teams matched against each other.

The victors play each other with the winner moving on to state. Moses Lake traveled to Spokane to Wednesday for a nonleague match against Mead High School, but the results were unavailable at press time.
