Quincy turns back Tonasket

QUINCY - The Quincy Jacks continue to impress their Caribou Trail League opponents in their first season in the conference as the team picked up its third win in a row with a 42-0 shellacking of the Tonasket Tigers Friday.

"This was another good defensive effort leading to our team's fourth straight shutout," coach Stephen Wallace said. "During these games our second and third string guys are getting into the action and are maintaining a high level of energy and making big plays."

The Jacks Steven Gomez got things rolling for Quincy with a fumble recovery in the Wildcats end zone (Mario Figueroa PAT) to give the home team a 7-0 lead.

An 8-yard run by Andy Vargas (PAT) pushed the score to 14-0 to end the first quarter of action.

The Jacks doubled the score to 28-0 on a Jacob Durfee 16-yard run and a 12-yard Durfee pass to Dallas Bassett (PATs good) as the first half came to an end.

Quincy, looking to put the game away early in the second half, put 14 points on the board in the third quarter on two John Lindquist runs (PAT's) from 3-and 18-yards out to finish the scoring for the Jacks.

Andy Vargas led the Quincy ground and pound attack with 102 yards on nine carries.

Antonio Melendez carried the pigskin 10 times for 63 yards,

Lindquist added 55 yards on six attempts, and Durfee finished with 51 yards on eight carries.

"Offensively we were able to make some big plays and try some new formations and plays throughout the game," Wallace said. "But, most of the game, we were playing with a short field due to defensive stops and turnovers."

The Jacks are back on the gridiron Friday when Quincy travels to Okanogan for a showdown with the Bulldogs.
