SCHAWANA — Grant County sheriff's officials are investigating what caused the unexpected death of a pregnant woman Wednesday in Schawana.

At 3:45 p.m. sheriff's deputies and crews from Grant County Fire Districts 8 and 10 were called to the 18300 block of Third Avenue Southwest in Schawana, five miles north of Mattawa. An 18-year-old woman was reported unconscious and not breathing. Officials performed CPR before she was transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Kyle Foreman, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said the woman was reportedly three or four months pregnant.

"There are no obvious signs of foul play, but due to the victim's age and the unknown circumstances of her heath, detectives and the Grant County Coroner's Office are conducting an inquiry," he said.

An autopsy is scheduled for today. The coroner's office is expected to release the woman's name at a later time.
