Ephrata home burns

| October 11, 2012 6:00 AM

EPHRATA - An overnight fire damaged a house on the 300 block of Strand Road Monday night in Ephrata.

All five of the residents escaped the blaze and tried to douse flames in a child's bedroom, Ephrata Fire Chief Jeremy Burns said Tuesday.

"They quickly realized the flames were coming from the exterior of the home," he said. "The family escaped without injury and called 911."

Both Ephrata Fire Department and Grant County Fire District 13 crews responded to the blaze, and spent an hour to get the fire under control.

Crews remained on the scene until 1:30 a.m. while overhauling the fire.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, Burns said. He has spent Tuesday morning on the scene attempting to determine cause.

Burns determined that faulty electrical wiring was the cause of the blaze.

The family of five was able to escape, he said. The house, while not a total loss, will require some remodeling before it's inhabitable.
