Reader announces Royal PTO blackout games

| October 10, 2012 6:00 AM

Our PTO is planning another blackout game this upcoming Friday against Connell. We are encouraging all Royal fans to come in black, or if they wear their Back in Black shirt they qualify for the prize raffles.

Our PTO vice president, Jose Ramirez, is organizing a carne asada dinner before the game. Everyone is invited to come enjoy delicious, homemade Mexican food for sale starting at 6 p.m. at the Knight's stadium. The proceeds go to the PTO and are filtered right back to Royal's schools.

We are also having a blackout game for the high school girls home volleyball game on Tuesday night. There will be prize raffles and concessions. We really want to rally support for the girl's team.

Although the back in black t-shirts have been sold out, we've placed another order and will have a limited number at the game on a first come, first served basis.

The PTO has been holding meetings every third Thursday of the month in the high school library. We have had good participation, and many great ideas have been presented to help enhance our kids' educational experience, support teachers, involve the community and build school spirit.

The blackout games and back in black t-shirts have been really well received. Seeing all of the fan support and back in black t-shirts at the Riverview game was inspiring.

With the funds raised from t-shirts, the PTO has sponsored Krispy's for HSPE's at the high school, ice cream for MSP's at red rock, and is scheduled to have a float spree for MSP at Royal middle school. These events reward the students for their success in passing their tests.

Beginning in October, lunch clubs will be introduced at Red Rock. PTO committee chairs sent a survey to 3rd through 5th grade elementary students inquiring about their interests.

Based on these survey results, educational lunch clubs will be held once a week for four weeks during lunch. The first batch will feature cooking, hands on science, and humanitarian service. These will be organized and taught by the PTO members and volunteers.

Everyone is invited to become a member of the PTO. The PTO really needs volunteers, ideas, and support to succeed. Annual dues are $10, and membership forms are available in any of the school's offices.

We also have a Facebook page that we hope people will 'Like' and follow, as well as leave comments and input.
