Chiefs soccer gets road win at Sunnyside

SUNNYSIDE - Alysha Overland scored three goals to chalk up her second hat trick of the season, and Caylah Lunning added two scores to help lead Moses Lake to a 7-1 road win over the Grizzlies Saturday.
The win improves the Chiefs to 4-2 in CBBN league play and lands the team in second place. Eastmont and Davis are tied for first at 5-0.
"We needed this bounce-back win after dropping the match to Davis last week," coach Ric Char said. "This puts us back in position to contend for the league title, but we can't have anymore slip ups."
The match against the Grizzlies was never in doubt as Moses Lake scored seven times in the first half of action.
Lunning got things rolling for the Chiefs with a goal off an assist by Hunter Mauseth three minutes into the contest.
Alysha Overland made it 2-0 (Lizzy McGraw) at the 4:75 minute mark. Lunning (Mauseth) pushed the score to 3-0 four minutes later. Moses Lake kept the pedal to the medal scoring twice more before the half on an unassisted goal by Stephanie Overland (22:30), and Alysha Overland's (Lunning) second score of the match to increase the lead to 5-0.
The Chiefs Emma Deering got into the scoring act with a goal off an assist by Alysha Overland at the 32nd minute of play to give Moses Lake a 6-0 lead. Alysha Overland recorded her third score of the match three minutes later to round out the scoring for the Chiefs.
Sunnyside managed to avoid the shutout with a goal 72 minutes into the contest.
Moses Lake is back on the pitch this afternoon when the team travels to East Wenatchee for a showdown with Eastmont and a shot at a tie for first place with a win over the Wildcats.
The match was scheduled for Lions Field at the beginning of the season, but was rescheduled to take place in Wenatchee as the teams swapped venues because of poor air quality as a result of wildfires burning in the Cascades.
"We lost to Eastmont in a shoot out at home Sept. 11," Char said. "We really want to return the favor, so I am sure the girls will be motivated to give it their best effort."
