Ardys B. Carlson

| October 10, 2012 6:00 AM

Ardys B. Carlson, 89 of Othello, passed into God's embrace at Coventry House Tuesday October 2, 2012.

Ardys was born in her parents' home near Atwater Minnesota October 7, 1922 to John and Anna Margaret (Anderson) Solbrack.

Ardys' mother died at an early age so Ardys had many responsibilities in her youth caring for her family, the home and chores on the farm. When she was 18 Ardys moved to Minneapolis and worked as a waitress while attending beauty school. After graduation she worked for several years as a beautician before returning to the Atwater area. There was a fire at a neighboring farm so Ardys went to help the family while they recovered from the fire. Sumner C. Carlson was one of the family sons and that was when Ardys and Sumner fell in love.

Ardys and Sumner were married January 29, 1947 and then farmed near Spicer Minnesota. They then moved to Othello in 1953 where they developed property and farmed in the newly created Columbia Basin Irrigation Project.

Ardys will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved having a full house of friends and relatives for holidays, special occasions or just to visit. She was always ready with a fresh pot of coffee and various Norwegian treats. She had an abiding faith in the Lord and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was ordained a Deacon in June of 1956. Ardys enjoyed teaching Sunday school, Bible study and activities with ladies of the church.

Ardys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sumner, sister Mildred and two sons, Dale and Chuckie (Sumner Jr.). She is survived by her sons, Steven (Susan) of Albert Lea, MN and Reed (Sue) of Othello and her daughter Gloria (Joe) Hurliman of Katy, TX, two brothers Henry and Irvin Solbrack both of Pasco, WA, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A time for final visitation has been set aside at Stevens Funeral Chapel on Wednesday October 10, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at Othello Presbyterian Church Thursday October 11, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens.
