Lorena Harless-Jenkins

Lorena Harless-Jenkins passed away at the Columbia Basin Hospital, Ephrata on Oct. 3, 2012 at the age of 94. Born in Watts, Oklahoma, on February 13, 1918, she had 5 siblings. Her maternal Grandfather, William Hallmark was sheriff of Cherokee County, Oklahoma for over a decade. Lorena lived in Richmond, VA, West Plains, Missouri, and Wenatchee, WA and moved to Soap Lake, in 1993. Lorena was an excellent cook and waitress in numerous restaurants. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Carlos "Jack" Jenkins, who passed on March 5, 2000. He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on June 30, 1927, and was a WW2 Naval Veteran.

They were married on March 25, 1962 in St. Maries, Idaho. Lorena was 1/16th member of the Cherokee Tribe of Oklahoma, on her maternal side. She recalled many outings as a youth gathering watercress and wild bulbs and herbs with her grandmother. She is survived by cousin Nancy Julson-Kennewick, a Half-Brother Paul Smith of Illinois, and niece Jessie P. Camargo of Ephrata. Arrangements are by Pioneer Memorial Services of Moses Lake.

Lorena's ashes will be interred next to her husband at the Tahoma National Veterans Cemetery in Kent, WA.
