Moses Lake talks car wash fundraisers

MOSES LAKE - A Moses Lake business owner primed the town's city council members recently for future discussion of fundraising car washes.

Travis Palmer, owner of Glass House Car and Dog Wash on North Stratford Road, said such car wash events pump extra waste water into city sewers, are unregulated and take business away from his establishment.

"I want to encourage fundraising," he said. "It's not that I don't want it to be done. Everybody enjoys seeing their kids out there ... for the cause."

His main concern is codes not being enforced.

"Sports and other fundraisers are great, but there's no regulation," he said.

Palmer stood up at the end of the meeting for non-scheduled items on the agenda.

He said he planned to submit a letter to the city to put the topic on the next meeting's agenda, scheduled for Tuesday.

In other business, council members approved a remodel for the American Legion building, 538 W. Broadway Ave., that would extend a wheelchair ramp five feet into unplatted property.

Moses Lake Community Development Director Gilbert Alvarado said in a letter to the council that the cost of platting would exceed the cost of the repairs.

Plans include repainting, replacing the rear roof and elevating the rear portion to the same level as the main building.

The council also approved an ordinance that would annex roughly 2.29 acres of land near the intersection of Wheeler and Hamilton.

The city will hold a public hearing before moving forward with the annexation.
