MOSES LAKE - Head wrestling coach Jamie Wise has resigned.

Wise, who had been at the helm of the program for the past seven years, turned in his notice to Moses Lake Athletic Director Loren Sandhop in mid-September.

"He cited personal reasons," Sandhop said. "He has a daughter in high school now, and is coaching cross country, and realizing how much fun he's having."

Wise declined to comment on his resignation, saying only that he, "just wants to be a dad."

Sandhop said last year was a difficult season for the Chiefs as the wrestling team didn't have as much success as prior years.

Moses Lake only produced one state champion; Nico Moreno, and finished 10th overall at the Mat Classic State Tournament.

The Chiefs were, however, district and regional runner up, so the season wasn't as bad as some have made it out to be.

During his stint as head coach, the program did produce seven state champions and 31 state placers.

Moses Lake was also crowned league and district champion five times, regional champs twice, and received three WIAA Distinguished Academic Awards.

The Chiefs finished second overall at the state tournament in 2007 and 2010 respectively.

With less than two months before the season begins, the search for his successor continues.

"We haven't found a replacement yet," Sandhop said. "It's been a difficult search at this point as the high school is through hiring teachers for the year. We are conducting interviews at this time, but it may take a while to fill the position."
