Jacks thump Pioneers

QUINCY - The Quincy offense ground out 318 rushing yards on 49 attempts, while the Jacks defense held Omak to 126 total yards in a lopsided 45-0 home win Friday.

The victory over the Pioneers improves Quincy to 2-1 in the Caribou Trail League and 2-3 overall.

"It was a great homecoming game win," coach Stephen Wallace said. "We got out to a big lead at the half and were able to pull our starters in the second half and get our sub's some game time experience."

The Jacks hung 21 points on the board in the first quarter of action on 2-yard run by Darren Hodges (Mario Figueroa PAT), a 50-yard run by Andy Vargas (PAT), and a 7-yard scamper by quarterback Jacob Durfee (PAT).

"Our defense made some big stops for us and forced Omak to three straight three and outs," Wallace said. "That allowed us to play on a short field, and we were able to take advantage of some shot drives."

Quincy scored 10 points in the second 12 minutes of action as Figueroa booted a 40-yard field goal and a 46-yard TD pass from Durfee to Vargas (PAT) to take a 31-0 lead into the locker room at intermission.

The Jacks backup QB Dallas Bassett connected up with Domingo Villrreal for a 32-yard touchdown (PAT) in the third quarter to increase the score to 38-0.

A 1-yard run by Alejandro Hernandez (PAT) in the fourth quarter rounded out the scoring for Quincy.

The Jacks are back on the gridiron Friday when the team heads to Chelan to take on the Goats.

"This should be a good test for us," Wallace said. "Chelan has traditionally been a ground and pound offensive team, but passed for 210 yards against Cascade Friday. They have four wide receivers over 6'2" and a freshman quarterback with a cannon for an arm."
