Chiefs swim team beats Eastmont

MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs defended their home waters with a stellar performance against the Wildcats Thursday as they raced past Eastmont for a league win.

"We started the meet a little slow," coach Tony St. Onge said. "But after a couple events, we started building momentum and finished strong."

Strong doesn't begin to describe the girls efforts as Moses Lake nearly doubled the Wildcats output at the meet.

The Chiefs placed second and third in the 200 medley relay and took second, third and fourth in the 200 freestyle, then went on to place first the next nine events to dominate Eastmont.

The 200 medley relay team of Grace Hochstatter, Joelle and Amber Garrett and Victoria Dalrymple turned in a time of 2:05.01 to edged our teammates Jordan Richeson, Hailey Griffith, Addison Fair and Megan Washburn who finished at 2:10.44.

In the 200 freestyle it was Amber Garrett placing second (2:08.27), Richeson (2:15.33) taking third and Rosalie Ramsden finishing fourth with a time of 2:28.58. Washburn started the first place run by the Chiefs with top honors in the 200 individual medley (2:29.76). Addison placed second with a time of 2:39.68. Dalrymple followed suit with a first place finish (26.77) in the 50 freestyle. Jalen Garza took fourth with a time of 29.02.

Heather Carbon continued to shine in the 1-meter dive event as she took first with a score of 130.10. The Chiefs Maaike Mensonides was third (99.80).

"There were some low scores throughout the diving meet but, we were also able to score some of our highest points as well," coach Allyson Vauren said. "Mauike got her highest score on six dives. Heather competed a forward two somersaults, and Kathryn (Pence) competed a forward one somersault for the first time in a meet."

Continuing with the first place finishes were Amber Garrett who won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.31. Hochstatter was second (1:10.90), and Ramsden finished fourth (1:16.72) in the event.

In the 100 freestyle it was Kelly Garrett besting all competitors (59.74), Dalrymple placing second (1:02.72), and Garza taking fourth with a time of 1:05.05. Kelly Garrett also placed first in the 500 freestyle.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Dalrymple, Garza, Kelly Garrett and Amber Garrett finished first (1:49.78), and Addison, Bailey Hammond, Allie Knutsen and Mikenna Jones came in third with a time of 2:04.24.

Hochstatter (1:09.82), Richeson (1:11.22), and Hammond (1:17.02) owned the 100 backstroke finishing 1,2,3 in the event. And in the 400 medley relay it was Hochstatter, Richeson, Washburn and Kelly Garrett placing first (4:10.96) and the team of Joelle Garrett, Hammond, Knutsen and Garza taking second with a time of 4:26.78.

Moses Lake finished second (Joelle Garrett 1:19.82), third (Griffith 1:24.65) and fourth (Jones 1:25.7) in the 100 breaststroke respectively, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Alex Mounts, Griffith, Carley Ritchie and Ramsden placed fourth with a time of 2:08.53.

The Chiefs Heather Carbon placed first in the 11-dive meet Friday in Wenatchee.

Moses Lake is back in the pool when the Chiefs head to Wenatchee Tuesday for a swim and dive meet against the Panthers.
