Winifred "Winnie" R. Post

| November 29, 2012 5:00 AM

Winifred "Winnie" R. Post, 98, a longtime Moses Lake resident was reunited with our Lord in the presence of family and friends on Tuesday, November 20, 2012.

Our beloved Winnie was born in 1914 to Stanton and Anise Caroline (Diers) Allen in San Juan (now McAllen), Texas. The family moved to Nebraska in 1920 and in 1921 she welcomed her brother "Buddy"- Stanley Allen.

Winnie graduated High School in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1932 and went on to Morning Star College in Sioux City, Iowa to attain a teaching degree in 1936. She was married to Harry Post in 1941 and the couple moved to Auburn, Washington in 1942. Harry was a welder in the Shipyards during WW11, and Winnie was a teacher at Auburn Elementary from 1956 to 1960 after starting her family.

Winnie's father Stanton Allen had purchased land in the Block 40 area in 1956 and the family left Auburn and started a new life "on the farm" in 1960. Winnie taught in the Moses Lake School District form 1961 to 1976, at Larson, Lakeview and Garden Heights elementary schools.

In retirement Harry and Winnie enjoyed many trips and adventures, they were active in St. Martins Episcopal Church as well as many Bridge groups. Traveling to Alaska, thru the Panama Canal, trips to the Grand Canyon and yearly trips to see Winnie's brother Stan in Florida filled Winnie and Harry's time, along with many gatherings of friends and family.

After losing Harry in 1988, Winnie moved off the farm to Broadway Estates and was active in AARP and Retired Teachers Association. She continued her friendships with her Block 40 neighbors by her participation in the Gloydettes, Harvest dinners and selling ice cream at the Grant County Fair. She reminisced often about her connection with all her dear friends in the Block 40 area and would want all of them to know that their friendship and support meant so much to her!

Winnie was preceded in death by husband Harry G. Post, Frieda Mae Post (sister in law), Stanton Post (son) and Stanley Allen (brother).

Winnie is survived by Daughters Patty Drake (Marland), Penny Parker (Don Bailey), Pam Rathbone (Todd); Son Glenn Post; Grandchildren, David Crockett, Michael Cosairt, Ed Devlin, Cherri Luna, Charlene Masenten, Dale Post, Jered Post, Allison Post, Sam Rathbone and Ben Rathbone, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

It's hard to condense 98 years into a few paragraphs and there is so much more to tell about our "Winnie", please join family and friends as we remember her life and comfort each other on December 1, 2012 for a memorial service, 10:30 am, St. Martin's Episcopal Church. Please join us for a "toast to Winnie" at Sporty's from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Please sign the online guestbook at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory.

Memorials may be made to the discretionary fund at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 416 E. Nelson, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
