PUD adds Quincy man to commission

EPHRATA - Grant County PUD commissioners unanimously appointed Larry Schaapman to fill the District 3 position during their business meeting on Nov. 13.

Schaapman will serve the remainder of Commissioner Randy Allred's term, which expires in December of 2014. Allred resigned from his position due to on-going health issues.

Schaapman is a farmer from Quincy, where he has resided for more than 40 years.

"Our decision was a difficult one, but I believe we selected the right person for the job," Commission President Tom Flint said.

The candidate selection process included eligible residents to send letters of intent, participate in interviews and field questions from members of the public during a forum held in Quincy.

Schaapman will be sworn into office at Grant PUD headquarters, 30 C St. SW, Ephrata, on Monday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m.

The District 3 position on the five-member board represents the southwestern portion of Grant County which covers Mattawa, Quincy, George, Royal City and rural areas west of Moses Lake.
