Jacks drop game to Panthers

KENNEWICK - Defense reigned supreme in the 1A State quarterfinal round game between the Quincy Jacks and River View Panthers as only 14 points were scored at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick Saturday.

Unfortunately, Quincy didn't put any on the board as they dropped the game to River View and were bounced out of postseason play.

The game was scoreless until the Panthers Ruvim Tyutyunnik hit pay dirt from 1-yard out (Alonso Mendoza kick) early in the fourth quarter to put River View up 7-0. Quincy still had time to get back in the game after the time consuming 13-play, 77-yard drive.

But the Jacks, pinned down deep in their own territory on the ensuing possession, had the snap sail over their punters head and it was recovered by the Panthers linebacker Austin Weatherby in the Quincy end zone for a touchdown. The PAT was good and River View led 14-0.

The Jacks potent ground game was held to 68 yards on 37 carries. Quincy completed just six of 16 passes for 73 yards.

The Panthers Alonso Mendoza ran for 107 yards on 21 carries, 97 of which came in the second half of play. Tyutyunnik completed 11 of 19 passes for 104 yards.

The win over the Jacks advances River View to the semifinal round for the first time in the school's history.

The Panthers will take on Royal Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick.
