Rusty was born September 27, 1953 in Monterey, CA to Donald and Linda Steffler. He graduated high school from Anchor Bay High School in Michigan and attended the University of Colorado in 1972. Rusty was born into a career military family and always had so many stories of traveling and moving from place to place. Rusty always thought he was a very lucky person to have traveled so much at such a young age.

Following in his father's footsteps, Rusty proudly enlisted in the military and joined the Navy. Upon completion of basic training, he was stationed at Antigua Island, in the British West Indies. He served as a communication analyst. During his time in the islands Rusty learned to sail and scuba dive. Some of his fondest memories came from the islands. After his service in Antigua, Rusty was stationed to Pacific Beach, WA, where he ended his career in the military.

Rusty met Lana Redal in 1979 and married her in 1982. Together they had 3 children; Glenn, 29, Sarah 27, and Nathaniel 19. Rusty was a hardworking man who lived for his children. He had a huge heart, was quick to smile and laugh and always there to lend a helping hand. He was a great father who was very proud of his children. Rusty loved taking his family camping, enjoying the simple things in life, teaching his kids to fish, crab, clam and hunt. During the last few years of his life, he devoted much of his time and energy to taking care of his parents, until his father passed away at age 80.

Rusty was a family man through and through, he was quick to forgive, slow to judge and a man of his word. Rusty was a friend to all he met and lived a full life. He will be missed and loved by those he left behind, His mother Linda, brothers Mike and Jason Steffler, sister Rachelle Clark; children Glenn, Sarah, and Nathaniel Steffler; grandchildren Jack, Ella, and Emmett. Rusty was preceeded in death by his father, Donald Steffler.
