OTHELLO - Quarterback David Garza threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the Othello Huskies to a 42-7 victory over the Cheney Blackhawks in a State 2A first round home playoff game Saturday.
The game got off to a slow start as Othello put the only points on the board in the first quarter on a 6-yard Garza pass to Derek Cantu (Miguel Gonzalez kick) to go up 7-0.
A 4-yard Garza run (PAT) to start the second quarter scoring increased the Huskies lead to 14-0. Cheney answered back with its only score of the game on a 12-yard pass from Andrew Graham to Eric Igbinola (Theo Petropulos kick) to close the gap to 14-7 at the half.
Othello hung 21 points on the board in the third quarter of play on a 4-yard Garza pass to Trevor Walker (PAT), a 2-yard Josiah Petersen run (PAT), and a Garza 34-yard scamper (PAT) to blow the game wide open for the Huskies.
Petersen capped off the scoring for the game with a 1-yard run (PAT) in the fourth quarter to give Othello the lopsided win and advance the Huskies to a quarterfinal match up with familiar CWAC foe Prosser.
