EAST WENATCHEE - A Quincy man allegedly hit a guardrail on state Route 28 Wednesday night, causing a vehicle wreck that sent him to the hospital.

According to Washington State Patrol reports, Alex Lara Sanchez, 30, of Quincy, took out the rail 16 miles east of East Wenatchee. Troopers said he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Lara Sanchez was traveling west on the highway in a 2005 Chrysler 300 just before 11 p.m. At the same time, Ivan Santiago, 23, of East Wenatchee, was headed east.

The Quincy man allegedly went off the road to the north and struck a guardrail. The impact sent the rail into the road, right in the path of the 2008 Toyota Highlander that Santiago was driving.

Troopers said that Santiago was wearing a seat belt, and are still investigating if Lara Sanchez had a restraint on at the time of impact.

Lara Sanchez was injured and transported to Central Washington Hospital where he was treated and released.

Trooper Darren Wright said that DUI charges are still pending against the driver.

Santiago reported no injuries. His vehicle sustained some damage but was driven from the scene. Lara Sanchez' vehicle was considered a total loss and towed from the area.
