Moses Lake soccer drops heartbreaker at home

MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs looked to be in the drivers set as they were the host team for a first round 4A Girls State Soccer match last night.
But the home field advantage did not work in their favor as Moses Lake dropped the game to Camas 1-0 and was eliminated from postseason play.
This is the second year in a row the Chiefs won the district championship and were knocked out in the quarterfinal round.
It was a cool autumn evening when the teams took the field. The Papermakers didn't seem to be impacted by the long ride to Moses Lake as Camas spent the majority of the first half of play in the Chiefs end of the field.
But Moses Lake controlled the last 17 minutes of action, and had several shots on frame that just missed the mark as the two evenly matched teams battled to a 0-0 tie at intermission.
The Chiefs came out fired up to begin the second half of play and looked to be controlling the tempo of the match.
But a slow-rolling shot on frame by Camas got by the Moses Lake keeper at the 61st minute of action to put the Papermakers up 1-0.
There was still plenty of time for the Chiefs to tie the score, and possibly win the match, but Moses Lake had trouble with the Camas press and couldn't get off any clear shots on goal, and were dealt a gut-wrenching loss.
