WENATCHEE - It was a real barn burner of a game between Moses Lake and Eisenhower in the first round of the district volleyball tournament Saturday as the teams battled three hours for the right to advance.

But unfortunately you only get one shot in a single elimination tournament and the Chiefs came up on the short end of the score, losing in five sets to the Cadets.

"It was a tough loss for us, but it wasn't for a lack of effort," coach Amy Utter said. "Both teams were evenly matched and played really well ... someone had to lose ... just wish it wasn't us."

Despite the loss, Moses Lake made big strides this season.

The Chiefs finished in second place in the CBBN standings with an 8-2 record, and only one game back of the Wenatchee Panthers who won the district championship and moved on to the state tournament.

"All-in-all, it was a successful season," Utter said. "The All-League players were announced today and Kenzie Fancher was named First Team setter; Sadie Nielsen, First Team middle hitter, and Taylor Sonnenberg, First Team libero. Briana Valdez was named Second Team outside hitter and Carina LeFave, Honorable Mention middle hitter. That's a real testament to those girls. They really worked hard all year and it was nice to see them recognized for their efforts."
