Reader calls Referendum 74 'unjust'

| November 2, 2012 6:00 AM

The legislators in Olympia often make new laws without consulting the populace. When the people hear of these new laws, and enough of them don't agree with one of them, the people can then exercise their right and petition to put that new law on the ballot so everyone can vote on it. There is at least one such law that is now on the ballot due to this process.

This law takes away the rights of the owner(s) of private businesses which may not wish to render their services. Businesses such as bakeries, florists, bed and breakfast, musicians, photographers, etc. are subject to abuse under the law Referendum 74 refers to.

This is an "unjust" law in its present form and therefore should not be made permanent. It needs to include the rights of "all" the people not just those of the clergy or those who are under the umbrella of a religious organization.
