MATTAWA - Seniors at Wahluke High School will take their first step toward adult life with graduation on Friday, June 1, at 6 p.m. at the high school gym.

Some will go to work. Others will go on to further education.

But some are on the edge of not graduating, Principal Jeff Pietla reminds.

"As of this writing, we have a number of seniors who still haven't met all of the local and state requirements to be eligible to graduation," he said. "If your child is in this situation, he or she will not be allowed to walk with their class on graduations."

Parents who are in doubt may feel free to contact Mrs. Phillips or Ms. Anthony at the school with their questions.

Pietla noted the gym is large enough that officials don't have to limit tickets for the graduation ceremony. There will be no reserve seats either.

"If you have an elderly or handicapped person in your party, please contact us and we will make accommodations to meet the needs of such people," Pietla said. "Additionally we will set aside another seat so that your family member won't have to sit alone."

The graduation period will start today, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. with the academic-scholarship recognition and reception at the school. Final examinations will be held on May 24-25.

There will be a makeup day on May 29 for seniors competing at state athletic events this weekend. That will be a no school date for seniors.

The senior trip, to a resort in Chelan, will occur on May 30. There will be no school for seniors on My 31.

Graduation day, Friday, June 1, will start with the senior breakfast hosted by the high school staff. It will be followed by a mandatory attendance rehearsal at 8:30. Seniors will check out of school at 11:30 a.m.

Pietla reminds parents that seniors must arrive at 5 p.m. for the 6 p.m. graduation.

Pietla also reminds parents that seniors must be on track for graduation to go on the senior trip. And they must meet all state and local requirements to graduate.
