RICHLAND - Moses Lake girls track turned in a fine performance at the CBBN/GSL Regional Championships Saturday.

The Chiefs (64) finished fifth out of 13 teams and will be sending eight qualifiers and two alternates to the state tournament at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma May 24 to 26.

"The girls had an outstanding weekend," coach Nicki Weiland said. "We are excited to represent Moses Lake this weekend and hope to break a few more records along the way."

Several Chiefs stood out over the three day event. But only the top three placers in each event will make the trip over the hill.

The 4x400 relay team of Alysha Overland, Arlena Hannan, Casci Carpenter and London Cleverly (4:00.52) took first place in the event and just missed breaking the 3:59.09 school record set back in 1987.

The 4x100 team of Overland, Kayla Grigg, Cayla Lunning and Diamond Ransom broke their own school record as they finished second wit a time of 49.05. OverlandĀ  (44.94) also took second in the 300 meter hurdles.

Sadie Nielsen took top honors in the discus event with a toss of 125-06 feet.

She placed fourth in the shot put (34.07), but did not qualify in the event. Lunning took second in the long jump with a leap of 17-00. All of the girls mentioned above will take part in the prelim's on Thursday and Friday.

Sixteen teams will be competing in two heats. Only the top eight in each event will move on to the finals Saturday. Stephanie Overland and Keiley Garcia are the two alternates for the relay teams.
